The Leaderboard adds real-time, competitive ranking to Workout Tracker results. Coaches see live standings while logging results in the Kiosk, and athletes see how they rank against their class right after submitting a score in the Athlete App.
What you can do with the Leaderboard
Rank athletes automatically by movement, using the scoring type you've already set up
See live standings in the Kiosk while a class is still logging results
Let athletes check their own rank and percentile after they submit a result
Group results into Scaled, RX, and RX+ levels so athletes are only compared to others at the same level
Filter standings by gender, date, and level on both the Kiosk and the Athlete App
Highlight an athlete's row in the results spreadsheet directly from the leaderboard panel
Understanding levels: Scaled, RX, and RX+
Levels (also called "categories") let athletes compete within a fair group: Scaled, RX, or RX+, instead of being ranked against everyone regardless of how hard the workout was performed. You (the coach or gym owner) decide which levels are available for each section of a workout in the Workout Builder.
A few things to know about how levels work:
Level applies to the whole Benchmark, not to any single movement inside it
Level doesn't change the workout itself. Selecting Scaled, RX, or RX+ doesn't change the scoring type (reps, time, weight, and so on) or the prescribed reps, rounds, or weight; those stay the same across all levels. If a workout calls for lighter weight or fewer reps at a given level, that's described in your workout notes, not set up as a separate field per level
Level only affects how results are ranked, not how they're scored
Level isn't locked once a result is logged. An athlete or coach can change the level tag on a logged result at any time without deleting or re-logging the result itself
How does the Leaderboard rank athletes?
The Leaderboard ranks athletes by score, using a sort direction based on the scoring type of the movement, and it accounts for ties and level automatically.
Sort direction by scoring type
Scoring type | Sort direction | Default unit |
|---|---|---|
Weight | Higher is better | lbs |
Reps | Higher is better | reps |
Time | Lower is better | MM:SS |
Rounds + Reps | Higher is better | rounds + reps |
Distance | Higher is better | m |
Calories | Higher is better | cal |
How ties are handled
Tied athletes share the same rank, and the athlete right after them takes the very next number; ranks aren't skipped. For example:
If two athletes tie for 1st place, the next athlete is ranked 2nd (not 3rd)
If three athletes tie for 3rd place, all three get the bronze medal, and the next athlete is ranked 4th
Tied athletes also share the same Top X% on the Athlete App's Your Ranking card.
How ranking works when "All" levels are selected
When the level filter is set to "All," the Leaderboard doesn't blend every athlete into one mixed list. It groups results by level, with RX+ shown first, then RX, then Scaled. Each group is ranked independently, with its own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. This means a higher score at a lower level never outranks a lower score at a higher level. For example, a 100 lb Scaled lift will always be listed after every RX lift on the board, even if 100 lbs happens to be the highest number logged that day.
Filtering to a single level (RX only, for example) collapses this back into one flat ranked list, since only one group exists at that point.
How rankings are displayed
1st place: gold medal icon
2nd place: silver medal icon
3rd place: bronze medal icon
4th place and beyond: numeric rank
Each row on the leaderboard shows the athlete's rank (or medal), a color avatar with their initials, their name, and their score with its unit.
Level vs. scoring type: what's the difference?
Because both are set up in the same place, it's easy to confuse a movement's level with its scoring type. Here's how they differ:
Aspect | Level (Scaled / RX / RX+) | Scoring type (Reps, Time, Weight, etc.) |
|---|---|---|
What it controls | Which group an athlete is ranked against | How a result is measured and sorted |
Set per | Section | Movement |
Changes the workout prescription? | No, reps, rounds, and weight stay the same across all levels | N/A |
Can be changed after logging? | Yes, at any time | No, set in the Workout Builder before results are logged |
How do I set up levels and scoring in the Workout Builder?
Before the Leaderboard can rank a movement, you'll need to set its scoring type and choose which levels are available.
Go to Programming → Workout Builder.
Open the workout and select the movement you want to configure.
Set the Scoring Type (Reps, Time, Weight, Rounds + Reps, Distance, or Calories).
Below the Scoring Type dropdown, check the boxes for any levels you want available: Scaled, RX, or RX+. RX is checked by default; Scaled and RX+ are unchecked by default. You can check any combination, including all three or just one.
Save the workout.
If no levels are checked for a movement, level chips won't appear in the Kiosk results table, the level selector won't appear in the Athlete App, and level won't show up as a filter option on either leaderboard. This field is optional, so you don't have to configure levels to use the Leaderboard's ranking.
If only some levels are checked, only those levels appear as options everywhere the Leaderboard shows up. For example, if only RX and RX+ are checked, athletes and coaches will only ever see "RX" and "RX+" as choices; Scaled won't appear as a chip, a selector, or a filter option.
Using the Leaderboard in the Kiosk
The Leaderboard is available to any staff role with Kiosk access: coaches, gym owners, and other staff.
Assigning an athlete's level while logging results
Open the Results tab in the Kiosk for the class you're logging.
Below each movement's input cell, you'll see level chips for every level enabled on that section. These chips are visible even before a result is entered.
Tap the chip for the level that applies to that athlete.
The tapped level becomes active immediately. You can tap a different chip at any time, even after a result has been logged, without needing to re-enter the result.
Opening the Leaderboard panel
From the Results tab, find the Leaderboard button in the header (next to the Filter button).
Tap it to open the leaderboard as a side panel (on mobile, it opens as a bottom drawer instead).
Use the Movement dropdown at the top of the panel to choose which movement to view. It defaults to the first tracked movement in the workout.
Review the ranked list under All Athletes. The footer tells you the total number of athletes (for example, "47 athletes").
Tap any athlete's row to highlight and scroll to that same athlete in the results spreadsheet. The highlight clears after a couple of seconds.
Tap the button again, or the panel's close control, to collapse it.
Filtering the Kiosk leaderboard
Tap the filter icon (sliders) next to All Athletes to open the filter sheet.
Choose your filters: Date (This Session, default, or Today), Gender (All, default, Men, or Women), and Level (All, default, or one of the levels enabled for that section).
Tap Show Results to apply your filters, or Cancel to close the sheet without changing anything.
Note: If your gym runs multiple sessions in a day, use the session picker on the Results tab to switch which session's results and leaderboard you're viewing.
Using the Leaderboard in the Athlete App
Selecting a level before logging a result
Open the workout's Results tab.
Below the workout description, select your level (Scaled, RX, or RX+) for that section. Only the levels the coach enabled will appear as options.
Your selection applies to every movement tracked in that section.
If you log a result without selecting a level first, you'll see a prompt reminding you to select your level.
Viewing your ranking
From the Results tab, tap Leaderboard → next to the workout title. This opens the full screen leaderboard for the whole workout, not just one section.
Use the Movement dropdown to pick which movement's rankings to view.
Check your Your Ranking card near the top of the screen. If you've logged a result, it shows your rank and your percentile (for example, "Top 8%"). If you haven't logged a result yet, it shows a prompt to log your results first.
Scroll down to see the full ranked list under All Athletes. Your own row is highlighted in blue and labeled "You."
Tap your Your Ranking card at any time to jump straight to your row in the list.
If your current filters exclude you (for example, you're logged as a woman and the Gender filter is set to Men), the card shows a "not ranked" state instead. This is expected behavior, not an error. Switching the filter back brings your rank back.
How "Top X%" is calculated: your rank is divided by the total number of athletes who have logged a result under your current filters, then rounded up to the nearest percent. For example, ranking 4th out of 50 athletes with results puts you in the Top 8%. This means switching filters (like narrowing to "Women") recalculates your percentile against only that filtered group, not the whole gym.
If you have "All" levels selected, your rank and percentile are calculated against athletes in your own level only, not across every level, so an RX+ athlete's percentile only reflects other RX+ athletes.
Filtering the Athlete App leaderboard
Tap the filter icon (sliders) on the leaderboard screen.
Choose your filters: Date (This Session, default, or Today), Gender (All, default, Men, or Women), and Level (All, default, or one of the levels enabled for that section).
Tap Show Results to apply, or Cancel to back out without changing anything.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't I see all three levels (Scaled, RX, RX+) as options?
Only the levels a coach enabled for that section in the Workout Builder will ever appear. If a section is set up with just RX and RX+, Scaled won't show up as a chip, a selector, or a filter option anywhere for that section.
Can I change my level after I've already logged a result?
Yes. Levels aren't locked once a result is submitted. An athlete or coach can tap a different level chip at any time, and it applies directly to the already-logged result; there's no need to delete or re-enter the result.
What happens if I attend two classes in one day?
You'll appear in the leaderboard for the specific session you're registered for. If you switch the Date filter to Today, you'll appear once, using your best score across those sessions, rather than showing up twice.
What happens if no one has logged a result yet?
The leaderboard displays the message "The leaderboard starts with the first score." Once the first result comes in, the leaderboard populates automatically.
Why does the leaderboard show "No results match these filters"?
This means your current filter combination (date, gender, or level) excludes every logged result. Try widening a filter (for example, switching from "This Session" to "Today," or from a specific level back to "All") to see results again.
Does selecting "All" for level mix everyone into one ranked list?
No. When Level is set to "All," results are grouped into separate rankings by level, RX+ first, then RX, then Scaled, each with its own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. A high score at a lower level is never ranked above a lower score at a higher level.
Helpful tips
Set up levels in the Workout Builder before class starts, since chips and selectors only appear for levels you've checked ahead of time
If you want a simpler leaderboard with no level breakdown, leave all level checkboxes unchecked for that movement
Use the session picker if your gym runs multiple classes on the same workout in one day, to keep each session's leaderboard separate
Remind athletes to select their level on the Results tab before logging a score, so they're grouped correctly from the start
When this feature is most helpful
Group classes where coaches want to spotlight top performers in real time
Competitive formats like CrossFit-style or functional fitness classes that already use Scaled/RX/RX+ scoring
Gyms running multiple sessions of the same workout in a day, where each session's standings need to stay separate
Building accountability and engagement by letting athletes see where they stand right after finishing a workout
