Business Metrics

Authors list

Six Business Metrics appear at the top of your Dashboard in Kilo GMS: ARM Total, ARM Paying, Churn, Average Churn, Estimated LEG, and Average LTV. Two of them expand into full reports, and the rest are calculations you read directly from the card. You choose which month the card covers, and you control which month your account starts counting from.

What you can do with the business metrics

  • See average revenue per member, churn, engagement length, and lifetime value in one place

  • Choose which completed month the metrics cover

  • Expand ARM Total and ARM Paying to see the underlying report and formula

  • Read an explanation of each calculated metric without leaving the Dashboard

  • Set the month your churn, engagement, and lifetime value figures start counting from

What the abbreviations mean

  • ARM. Average Revenue per Member.

  • Churn. The loss of members over a given time period.

  • LEG. Length of Engagement.

  • LTV. Lifetime Value.

How do I change the month shown?

The metrics default to the most recently completed month, and they do not move mid-month. Partway through September, you are reading August's numbers.

  1. Go to Dashboard.

  2. Click the month shown in the upper right corner of the Business Metrics card.

  3. Use the arrows beside the year to move between years.

  4. Select a month.

Months that have not finished yet are unavailable, because the figures are only calculated once a month closes.

Expandable reports: ARM Total and ARM Paying

Click either metric on the Dashboard to open its full report. The formula sits at the top of the report.

ARM Total

ARM Total is the total revenue for the selected month divided by the total members in that same month.

ARM Paying

ARM Paying is the total revenue for the selected month divided by the paying members in that same month. Paying members are athletes holding the Member status, so athletes with the Non-Paying Member status are excluded.

Comparing the two tells you how much your non-paying members are pulling on your average.

Calculated metrics: Churn, Average Churn, Estimated LEG, and Average LTV

These four are calculations rather than reports, so they do not expand. Select the question mark icon beside any of them to see an explanation of what it measures.

How do I set the start date for my metrics?

Your Churn, Average Churn, Estimated LEG, and Average LTV figures are averages, so months when your account existed but your gym was not yet running on Kilo GMS will pull them off. Setting a start date tells the system which month to begin counting from, so those early months stop affecting the averages.

  1. Click your name in the lower left corner of the screen.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll to Additional Settings.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. Set the month and year in the field labeled Set the start date for your Churn, Average Churn, Estimated LEG, and LTV metrics.

  6. Save your changes.

Pick the first month your gym was genuinely operating in Kilo GMS. ARM Total and ARM Paying are not affected by this setting, because they are calculated from a single month rather than averaged across many.

Helpful tips

  • Check your metrics at the start of each month. They only move when a month closes, so there is nothing new to see mid-month.

  • Set your metrics start date during onboarding rather than later. Every month you leave in front of your real start date drags your churn and lifetime value figures.

  • Use the year arrows in the month picker to compare the same month against last year.

  • Expand ARM Total or ARM Paying whenever a number surprises you. The formula and the underlying report are both right there.
