September 2023 Newsletter
{{contact.first_name}}, it’s back-to-school month, and I’ve got some advice for you—and any school-age kids you have! I also have a new healthy recipe for you.
First, let’s talk about you. How did summer go? Did you move closer to your health and fitness goals?
If you did, great! If you didn’t, don’t worry: It’s easy to get back on track.
Here’s your two-step plan for September:
- Eat more veggies and lean protein.
This is a simple tip that has great effects—especially if you had some extra treats in summer. Just look at your diet and make some small changes. Cut down on alcohol, sugary beverages and snacks, and fatty foods. Prioritize vegetables—raw, steamed, broiled, etc.—and lean cuts of meat. If you make some easy substitutions, you’re going to feel better fast.
- Set some fitness goals for the fall.
Whether you moved a lot in the summer or slowed down a little, some fresh goals are going to fire you up between now and Thanksgiving. I’d recommend you set two goals: one short-term goal and one long-term goal. The first one could be something you do within two or three weeks—like “work out three times a week for three weeks straight.” Here’s an example of a long-term goal: “add 15 lb. to my squat by December” or “compete in a local throwdown before 2023.”
Those two steps will work wonders—and I probably don’t have to tell you that I’d be happy to meet with you and make a plan for the fall anytime you like (click here [LINK]).
And now here’s some advice if you have kids who are heading back to school.
Some kids love school sports and want to perform their best. If you have a child like this, let us know. We leave sports-specific training to school coaches, but we can help young athletes with healthy eating strategies and general strength and conditioning.
Other kids don’t enjoy school sports or competition. Or maybe they’re too young for competitive sports. We can help these kids get moving with general fitness activities that are a lot of fun—especially in a group. If they learn how to move when they’re young—and enjoy it—they’ll be set for a lifetime of health and fitness.
If you’d like to talk about your kids and fitness, I’m ready anytime. Hit “reply” or click here [LINK].
Finally, I’ve got a great fall recipe for you: grilled beets. You won’t believe how tasty they are.
It’s simple: Peel about 4 medium beets and chop them into quarter-inch slices, then toss them in a bowl with salt and about 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Preheat your barbecue to about 300 F, then place the beets directly on the grill. After 8-10 minutes, flip them and cook for another 8-10 minutes—until they’re tender.
Seriously, this one is a game-changer if you want to add something different to your table this fall.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
