Sending Emails: Smart Lists vs. Email Marketing

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the difference between sending emails from Smart Lists and from the Email Marketing section inside Gym Lead Machine.

The setup is slightly different depending on where you send your emails from, so it’s important to understand how each option works.

Option 1: Sending Emails from Smart Lists (Quick Sends)

Inside Gym Lead Machine, you’ll find your Contacts section, where all your leads and clients are stored.

If you’ve followed our previous guides, you should already have a valid email Smart List set up.

Once your Smart List is ready:

  • Select your Smart List (or even all contacts from the Contacts page)
  • Click Send Email

If you accidentally click "All" contacts or don't have the valid email filters applied Gym Lead Machine will automatically filter out:

  • Invalid email addresses
  • Unsubscribed contacts

From there:

  1. Click Confirm & Proceed
  2. Enter your action name
  3. Write your email
  4. Scroll down and click the Confirm checkbox to send

Option 2: Sending Emails from the Email Marketing Section

When sending emails through the Marketing → Emails section, the process is a bit different.

⚠️ Important:

Emails sent from this section do NOT automatically filter out invalid or unsubscribed contacts.

How to Send Safely from Email Marketing

To make sure you’re only sending to valid contacts:

  1. Open your email campaign
  2. Fill in your email details (sender, subject, etc.)
    • We recommend using your custom values “From Email”
  3. Under recipients, choose:
    • Send to Smart List (NOT “All Contacts”)
  4. Click the + button
  5. Select your valid email Smart List

This ensures your emails are only sent to:

  • Subscribed contacts
  • Valid email addresses

Pro Tip 💡

Create separate Smart Lists for different groups like:

  • Leads
  • Active members
  • Past clients (alumni)

Then always send campaigns to the appropriate filtered Smart List to keep your email deliverability high and your messaging targeted.
