{{contact.first_name}}, let’s talk about Hyrox.

If you haven’t heard of it, Hyrox is a fitness race—and it’s incredibly popular right now.

Events are held all around the world, and the format and movements are always the same, which means you can put together a very specific training plan to ensure you perform your best.

Even better, Hyrox offers different divisions to allow people of all abilities to participate. You can race solo, as part of a pair or with three others on a relay team.

Here’s the race format:

1-km run

1-km SkiErg

1 km run

50-m sled push

1-km run

50-m sled pull

1-km run

80 m burpee broad jumps

1-km run

1-km row

1-km run

200-m farmers carry with kettlebells

1-km run

100-m sandbag lunges

1-km run

100 wall balls

Overall, it’s a lot of running and conditioning, with a little strength and some muscular endurance thrown in.

How should someone train to succeed in a Hyrox race?

The best plan involves aerobic work—ski, run, bike, swim, row—as well as strength and power training. You want to build an engine that allows you to run swiftly and then quickly transition to the next test.

Sled pulls and pushes involve upper- and lower-body strength, while sandbag lunges and wall balls require leg strength and endurance. Burpees are all about conditioning and willpower, and farmers carries challenge grip and core strength.

Hyrox is a full-body test that places the greatest demands on the cardiovascular system, but you’ll still need to strength train to perform at your best. Good news: weight training is also great for improving speed in middle distances, such as 1 km.

As strength-and-conditioning experts, we’ve helped many people get ready for fitness races, and we can help you, too. We know how to improve aerobic capacity, running speed and full-body strength, and we can teach you exactly how to perform all Hyrox movements.

We even have the equipment to put together a simulated event so you can get a sense of where you’re at before you register.

And you don’t have to do an official Hyrox race, either. Some of them sell out very fast or require travel, but all sorts of fun fitness races are popping up these days. If you see a local event you’d like to get ready for, we can help.

Interested in any races this spring or summer? If so, let’s talk about a training plan so you’re in top shape when race day arrives.
